The Philippines is one of the world’s largest archipelago nations. It is situated in Southeast Asia in the Western Pacific Ocean. Its islands are classified into three main geographical areas – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Because of its archipelagic nature, Philippines is a culturally diverse country. With its topography consisting of mountainous terrains, dense forests, plains, and coastal areas, the Philippines is rich in biodiversity. It is considered as one of the mega biodiversity countries in the world with a high percentage of flora and fauna endemism.
Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire makes Philippines extremely vulnerable to natural disasters, especially earthquakes, cyclones, and volcanic hazards. Long-lasting armed conflict in Mindanao and other parts of the country and the negative impact of increasing effects of climate change hinder sustainable development and intensify poverty.
Local Philippine Market (palengke)

The word palengke is a local variant of the Spanish word palenque, literally meaning "(wooden) palisade or stockade" and by extension the area enclosed by such a structure for defense, public festivals or some other purpose. The Spanish word is also used to describe a pathway or cluster of tables set up at some place of gathering such as a theatre, tournament or market, and it is from this latter sense that palengke likely derives its usage in the Filipino context.

The Tubbataha Natural Park also known as Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (Tagalog: Bahurang Tubbataha) is a protected area of the Philippines located in the middle of the Sulu Sea. The marine and bird sanctuary consists of two huge atolls (named the North Atoll and South Atoll) and the smaller Jessie Beazley Reef covering a total area of 97,030 hectares (239,800 acres; 374.6 sq mi). It is located 150 kilometres (93 mi) southeast of Puerto Princesa City, the capital of Palawan province.[2] The uninhabited islands and reefs are part of the island municipality of Cagayancillo, Palawan, located roughly 130 kilometres (81 mi) to the northeast of the reef.

Sungka is a game for two, played using a wooden block with 16 holes that can hold pieces of either pebbles, marbles, or seeds. Two of the holes (called ‘heads’) remain empty, each player protects their own ‘head’. The goal is to gather as many pebbles etc in their ‘head’ as the player can in order to win the game. The game is also played in other Asian countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar.
Filipinos are known to be lovers of sports and many have carved their names in the international sports scene. Think of Manny Pacquio, one of the world’s greatest boxer, and chess grandmaster Wesley So. But aside from boxing, basketball, chess, swimming, and others, Filipinos are also fond of their homegrown sports.
